Running The Race in Eldoret...

Another very full day…here are the highlights.

An early stop at Chepkoleil track on our way to the workshop. I met some new athletes who would later attend our clinic and we were introduced to Mary Keitany, the women’s marathon world record holder.

A footprint in Eldoret

The workshop was scheduled to start 9:00 am but actual African start was 10:00 am. We had about 2 hours of lecture material that we condensed to 1 1/4 hours so we would have time for clinic. We had 49 attendees and we saw 14 patients in the follow up clinic. There were another 15 patients we didn’t have time to see-we were already late for our afternoon clinic back in Iten. We will come back for another clinic on Thursday morning. It was a great introduction to the opportunity to serve in Eldoret. Thank you to our good friend Moses with FCA Kenya.

We had no idea Tyler had moves like this. Wow!

We grabbed a lunch on the go and arrived 1 hour late for the start of clinic in Iten. We had 7 patients waiting and we saw a total of 11 for the afternoon.

I had a male runner from Lodwar in Turkana which is a region struggling with drought and famine. He came to Iten 1 year ago to support his family through his running. He was essentially homeless for a while and just surviving until a coach brought him into his home. Unfortunately I had to tell him he had a stress fracture and he had to stop running for 6 weeks. We prayed for him and his family back home that God would protect and provide for them. I am thankful for his coach who seems to genuinely care for him. If he follows the plan we provided for him he will be training again soon and hopefully winning some races.

We have enjoyed Dr. Mugalla's presence in the clinic this week.

Another strong performance by our team today in Eldoret and Iten. I am very thankful for the hard work and the great care provided by Amy and Tyler. They fit right in with the mission here in Kenya. More to come…
